Salary: The hiring salary for Lead Maintenance Worker is starting at $31.93. The full pay range for Lead Maintenance Worker is $31.93 - $37.25 - $43.23. About the Job: The Facilities Management Department is seeking a Lead Maintenance Worker to maintain safe, efficient, and high-performing facilities. In this role, youâll plan, coordinate, and oversee a variety of building and equipment maintenance projects while ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency in every task. Youâll take the lead in daily operations, preventive maintenance programs, and asset management initiativesâusing tools like the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to streamline workflows, manage inventory, and optimize asset performance. The selected candidateâs strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and ability to collaborate across departments will help ensure our facilities remain reliable and sustainable. What Youâll Do: Coordinate & Oversee Maintenance Operations: Lead and supervise daily maintenance and repair activities for buildings, facilities, and equipment. Plan and assign work orders, determine material and equipment needs, monitor contractor performance, and ensure all work is completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with established standards and specifications. Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to schedule, track, and optimize maintenance activities. Manage Preventive Maintenance & Asset Programs: Participate in the creation and implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance schedules and standards. Oversee inventory control and asset management programs to ensure accurate tracking of parts, materials, and equipment life cycles. Support budget planning, cost control, and purchasing processes to maintain efficient operations and ensure resources are used effectively. Safety & Operational Excellence: Champion a culture of safety by implementing and enforcing workplace safety standards and regulations. Provide technical guidance, training, and resources to employees to ensure safe, effective, and compliant work practices. Respond promptly to emergencies, safety concerns, and operational issues to maintain a safe and productive work environment. Lead, Train, & Develop: Motivate, train, and evaluate employees to promote skill development, teamwork, and accountability. Provide technical support on work methods, equipment operation, and safety procedures while fostering continuous improvement and professional growth within the team. Coordination & Communication: Collaborate with internal departments, external stakeholders, and contractors to coordinate maintenance activities and resolve issues efficiently. Communicate project progress, respond to inquiries and complaints, and maintain positive working relationships across all levels of the organization. Maintain Records & Compliance: Prepare and maintain accurate maintenance documentation including work requests, time records, accident reports, and inspection logs. Operate computers and relevant software to manage data, monitor performance metrics, and support informed decision-making. Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to ensure proper execution of maintenance work. Operational Driving*: Operates and drives Authority vehicles daily to and from work sites, transporting necessary equipment to ensure timely arrival and efficient completion of repairs. Requirements The Experience You Need to Have**: Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. Four years of journey-level public works or airport terminal construction and maintenance experience. Equivalent combination of training and experience. Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements : Maintain a valid CA driverâs license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Authorityâs vehicle insurance policy. Successful completion of a fingerprint-based background investigation, training, and testing required for employment and operation and operation of Authority and San Diego County physical security, surveillance, radio and telecommunications equipment. *Driving is an Essential Function This role requires regular driving as a critical part of performing work-related duties, specifically involving the operation of Airport Authority vehicles. A valid California driverâs license is required, along with strict adherence to all traffic laws and safety regulations. Applicants must maintain an acceptable driving record to operate Authority vehicles. Compliance with Airport Authority vehicle use policies, including safety protocols and reporting requirements, is mandatory.
