About the Role
As the Senior Manager of Body Engineering, you will lead the team of internal engineers and external partners to deliver innovative body solutions for Lightship’s groundbreaking all-electric RVs. You will use your deep technical knowledge, broad experience, and strong leadership skills to develop finely balanced solutions which meet the commercial, structural, functional and cosmetic needs for current and future products.
Responsibilities
- Overall: Lead the body engineering team to design a bonded aluminum support structure and composite cosmetic exterior panels for a unique electric RV
- Collaborate with other Lightship engineering teams to ensure proper mechanical integration of their content, especially closures, glazing, high and low voltage electrical systems, interior systems
- Work with internal and external partners to optimize the body structure and exterior panels to meet targets for structure, cost, mass, manufacturing and assembly, dimensional and cosmetic quality
- Support selection of suppliers and work closely with the chosen supplier to manage delivered part quality and delivery timing
- Develop and perform component and system level testing as needed to validate your designs
- Support the manufacturing team in the assembly of the body structure in-house
Minimum Qualifications
- BS Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 10+ years of experience with production-level vehicle body design; 5+ years in a leadership position
- 5+ years utilizing CATIA, to design vehicle structures
- 3+ years experience collaborating closely with Industrial Design teams to deliver class A vehicle body designs
- Highly organized: ability to plan and track progress for a large number of subcomponents through design, release, production and revision
- Collaborative mindset, dedication to excellence and completeness, clear communication style
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within a startup or other small company environment
- Strong CATIA 3DX user
- Significant automotive body design leadership experience including dimensional control, sealing, fit & finish
- Experience applying lightweighting techniques, materials and processes to vehicle structures
- Experience with achieving aggressive aerodynamic targets on vehicle structures
Equity
- Lightship compensation consists of the yearly salary above plus equity, which gives you a stake in the company.
$160,000 - $200,000 a year
Onsite/Hybrid Work
Hybrid roles at Lightship require onsite work from our offices Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Tuesdays and Fridays are optional work from home days, when your work will be executed more successfully from home. Speak to the hiring manager to learn more.
