DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Boston Red Sox Nutrition Department’s vision is focused on fortifying player health, enhancing recovery, and optimizing performance. Our mission is to integrate science and sustenance by crafting customized recommendations, providing comprehensive education and working collaboratively with medical staff, performance staff and coaches help players reach their goals. Our team aims to provide the best available quality, quantity and variety for our meals, snacks, and supplements, ensuring peak physical and mental condition.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Red Sox Nutrition Assistant will serve as an integral member of the Sport Performance Team, supporting the delivery of nutrition services for the Boston Red Sox minor league players across all affiliate locations. This part-time position manages the daily administrative and operational functions of the nutrition program, including coordinating catering vendors for home and road games, conducting menu analysis, managing meal budgets, and ensuring timely billing and payment for affiliate meals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Nutrition Assistant will collaborate with the Nutrition Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator to support player health, wellness, and performance by focusing on the following:
- Execute the nutrition department’s vision and strategy to enhance player performance and well-being.
- Assist in menu development and provide oversight of food service operations across all Red Sox affiliates.
- Communicating and collaborating with local vendors to coordinate home and road catering, placing weekly meal orders for all affiliates.
- Maintain accurate records of meal expenses and invoices, manage budgets, and reconcile billing in a timely manner.
- Serves as liaison between the Nutrition Department and other internal departments, assisting the Performance Team with menu feedback and catering logistics.
- Tailor vendor recommendations to the unique demands of professional baseball, considering player preferences, allergies, special dietary needs, and affiliate feedback.
- Troubleshooting vendor-related issues, such as portion sizes, special meal requests, or delivery delays, and manage last-minute or emergency meal orders when necessary.
- Adjust meal schedules as needed for rain delays, doubleheaders, or other game-day changes.
- Create weekly menu infographics and other communication materials for athletes and staff at all affiliates.
- Stay up to date with current nutrition research and continuing education, and be available to assist with additional nutrition-related tasks and responsibilities as needed.

- The Nutrition Assistant should demonstrate the following:

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships and interact with a range of stakeholders, including athletes, coaches, and performance staff.
- Ability to receive feedback and make appropriate food service adjustments to meet each affiliate’s individual needs and preferences.
- Self-motivation and accountability, with the ability to work independently when needed.
- Flexibility to work nontraditional hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Foodservice Management, Communications, Sports Management, or Business is preferred.
- Minimum of one year of hands-on experience working within a multi-disciplinary performance team within a high-performing sports organization (high school, collegiate or professional level).
- Experience managing budgets and billing systems.
- Proficiency in nutrient analysis and Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Power Point, Teams).
- Baseball or softball experience preferred.
