OVERVIEW
Morning Brew is looking for a Senior Designer, Editorial to bring smart, creative visuals to a wide range of editorial formats, newsletters, features, and tentpoles, across our high-volume newsroom of consumer and professional publications.

This is a hands-on  role focused on producing smart, scalable visuals that serve our editorial voice and business goals. You’ll create custom illustrations, build templates, and develop collages that bring clarity and creativity to our journalism. You’ll also partner with our Photo Editor, Editorial to ensure visual consistency and collaborate with freelance designers to keep production moving smoothly.
We’re looking for someone who’s just as comfortable creating original artwork as they are thinking through systems and workflows. The ideal candidate has great taste, a sharp eye for brand nuance, and thrives in a fast-paced newsroom.

Morning Brew is based in New York City but this role is remote-friendly for all candidates.

- Contribute to visual storytelling for tentpoles, features, and interactive experiences across 12+ brands
- Adapt your execution style to fit different brand identities and audience needs
Creative Collaboration
- Partner with the Photo Editor, Editorial and freelance designers to uphold design standards across all editorial output
- Concept and give feedback on art treatments in pitch meetings and brainstorms, while also driving high visual standards through clear design rationale and attention to brand consistency
- Surface new ideas for how art and design can work together to support reader experience
Editorial Design Systems
- Build and evolve Figma templates and in-house stock libraries to support scalable editorial design
- Organize, tag, and maintain a growing archive of visual assets in partnership with the Photo Editor
- Apply systems thinking to streamline visual workflows and improve consistency across brands
- Balance speed and craft by clearly communicating timelines and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- 5+ years of experience in editorial design or related fields
- Fluency in tools like Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Procreate
- Strong visual judgment and understanding of brand systems
- Comfort juggling high-volume design production with more conceptual, long-lead projects
- Excellent communication skills: you’re clear, collaborative, and comfortable giving and receiving feedback
- Familiarity with editorial workflows and working closely with editors and contractors
- A proactive, self-managed work style, you're someone who can keep pace and help others stay aligned
- Curiosity about how editorial design evolves and scales across brands
- An ownership mindset, you’re not afraid to challenge the status quo and grow in the role

BONUS POINTS
- Experience building design systems or editorial templates
- An interest in contributing to the overall art direction of a story or visual concepting
- Enthusiasm for illustration and editorial storytelling
- A personal roster of freelance illustrators or designers you’ve worked with and trust
