About the Role
We’re looking for an Engineering Lead - Risk & Support to guide one of our agile development pods responsible for delivering scalable, secure, and high-performance commerce solutions. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who has successfully led small teams or major projects and is ready to blend hands-on technical contributions with mentorship and leadership.
You’ll work cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and merchants to shape and deliver innovative experiences that power seamless checkouts across the Bolt ecosystem.
What You’ll Do
- Technical Leadership: Lead a small team of engineers through design, development, and delivery of end-to-end solutions. Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and code reviews to ensure high standards of quality and scalability.
- Full-Stack Development: Design, build, and maintain backend services (Go, Python, or Java) and frontend applications (TypeScript).
- Architecture & Scalability: Design systems for scale, performance, and reliability—optimizing our PostgreSQL, BigQuery, and Elasticsearch databases.
- Merchant Collaboration: Partner directly with merchants to understand needs, resolve issues, and propose scalable, customer-focused solutions.
- Security & Compliance: Drive initiatives around fraud detection, card tokenization, and compliance with card network and data privacy standards.
- API & Platform Integration: Build and evolve REST APIs and webhooks that power integrations with commerce platforms like Magento 2, BigCommerce, and Salesforce Commerce Cloud.
- Observability & Reliability: Ensure robust monitoring, logging, and alerting through Datadog and related tools; lead incident response and on-call rotations.

Process Improvement: Identify and automate inefficiencies, contribute to CI/CD pipelines, and champion best practices across the engineering org.
What We’re Looking For
Must-Have:
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 1+ year leading projects or small teams.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Go, Python, TypeScript, Java).
- Strong experience with modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or similar).
- Solid understanding of database design and performance optimization (Postgres, DynamoDB, BigQuery).
- Experience with testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Mocha, Ginkgo).
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership style.
Nice to Have:
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
- Background in event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.).
- Exposure to ecommerce platforms such as Magento 2, BigCommerce, or Salesforce Commerce Cloud.
- Experience with developer experience tools (Scalar, Redoc).
- Understanding of fintech or commerce security and compliance best practices.
Please note that this is a contract-to-hire opportunity, with the option to convert to full-time after 3–6 months. The estimated compensation for the contract period is a flat monthly fee of $17,000-18,833 USD (all-in, no benefits). Upon full-time conversion, the role will include RSUs and standard employee benefits.
