This position conceives, designs, and prototypes photometric sensors and multi/hyperspectral imagers and their associated circuits and systems. Activities include documentation, vendor management, prototyping, and transfer to manufacturing. This position requires troubleshooting complex electronic device problems and being committed to customer satisfaction. Although the location of the position is in Columbia, SC, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations. Essential job functions include the following but are not limited to: ⢠Design and develop electronics for precision scientific instruments and peripherals ⢠Take a design from an initial concept through prototyping, debugging, and manufacturing phases ⢠Manage project timeline and costs ⢠Troubleshoot and resolve electronics related system issues ⢠Manage electronics engineering documentation and material specifications ⢠Responsible for data entry, document revision and control in the Thorlabs ERP system. ⢠Specify and perform the testing required to characterize catalog or system products. This includes technical data such as circuit simulations, qualification test procedures, acceptance test procedures, reports, testing jigs and fixtures, etc. ⢠Responsible for all related production documentation, which includes bills of material, engineering drawings, testing requirements, and tooling. ⢠Partner with production teams to troubleshoot and resolve electronics related system issues. ⢠Manage electronic component vendors and contract manufacturers ⢠Work with other Thorlabs business units to ensure that all designs and finished goods conform to the Thorlabsâ standard of quality ⢠Work closely with software group to maximize functionality and technology usage. ⢠Develop embedded firmware to control and or monitor many different optical, mechanical, and electrical components within an integrated system. In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for: ⢠Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work-related tasks in a manner that is compliant with all Company policies and procedures. ⢠Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments. The Company retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Physical Activities: Work may be active, could stand or sit for long durations and/or perform repetitious work at times. The employee may lift or move objects up to 20 pounds. Employees must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, may be noisy at times. Must be able to wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment such as but not limited to masks, glasses, gloves, and specialty garments. The required PPE and training allow for the safe handling and processing of chemicals like adhesives, lubricants and solvents, and safe operation of job related equipment and tools. Requirements Experience: ⢠5 years of hands-on experience with PCB layout and design Education: ⢠Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or experience in a related field Specialized Knowledge and Skills: ⢠Experience with PCB Schematics design software such as Altium or equivalent ⢠Familiarity with electronics testing and prototyping equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, etc. ⢠Experience working with stepper motor controllers, analog-to-digital circuitry, or single-board computers is considered a plus ⢠Strong proficiency in MS office and communication tools. ⢠Familiarity with software programming, such as python, C, C++, LabVIEW, or MS Visual Studio for test automation is considered a plus ⢠Excellent statistical data analysis and problem-solving abilities ⢠Effectively reports progress and problems through written or oral reports ⢠Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment ⢠Strong innovation skill ⢠Flexibility/adaptability in a fast-paced & dynamic environment Salary range for this position is $74,000 - $110,000 depending on experience Thorlabs values its diverse environment and is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
