Founded in 2005 by trial lawyer R. James Amaro, Amaro Law Firm is a Texas-based plaintiffs’ firm dedicated to helping individuals and families stand up to corporate and insurance interests. We handle catastrophic injury, trucking and motor vehicle accidents, wrongful death, workplace and refinery incidents, and complex mesothelioma/asbestos litigation. With offices across Texas (Houston HQ, The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Dallas, Austin, and Lakeway), we combine statewide reach with a deep commitment to client advocacy.
Our culture is high-performance, servant-minded, and outcome-driven. We pursue justice with intensity and empathy, guided by the values of being useful to others, continuous improvement, and rigorous execution.
What you’ll do:
- Organization Leadership & Culture: Lead and scale a team of ~10 paralegals (and growing); mentor and promote two lead paralegals; eliminate cliques and conflict; reinforce servant leadership, accountability, and trust.
- Training, Tiers & Certification Program: Build and manage a tiered paralegal ladder (Tiers 1–4) and specialty certifications (e.g., wrongful death, trucking, trial). Deliver the January 1 rollout and maintain ongoing training, supported by tools like Trainual. Provide regular team training meetings.
- KPI, QA & Operational Excellence: Define and monitor KPIs such as file velocity, SOP compliance, client responsiveness, trial prep timelines, and Core Standards audits. Run weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports for CLO and MA. Ensure reports show at least 90% compliance on client contact, file deadlines, and TOD pipeline standards.
- Client Experience Oversight: Ensure paralegals maintain regular client contact (every 15 days while treating, every 30 days otherwise), return voicemails same/next day, and set attorney-client check-ins every 60 days. Confirm intro calls occur within 24 hours of file transfer to litigation.
- File Management & Compliance: Enforce file setup, organization, and deadline tracking in Filevine (transitioning), ClickUp, and Needles. Confirm all “pre-lit to lit” checklists, trial prep checklists (120–90–60–30 day), and case management audits are complete and meet minimum score standards.
- Cross-Functional Partnering: Collaborate with CLO, Managing Attorney of Litigation, Fast-Track Litigation, HR, and Operations to align staffing, SOPs, and caseload distribution. Support integration of new paralegals during acquisitions.
- Focus Group Coordination: Assist MA with focus group scheduling and reporting. Ensure insights are documented and applied to cases.
- Systems & Tech Enablement: Drive adoption of Filevine, ClickUp, Office 365, and related apps. Draft and implement templates and SOPs to improve efficiency.
What we’re looking for:
- Experience: 8–10+ years in legal operations/paralegal leadership; 2+ years leading multi-team paralegal functions (PI/litigation preferred).
- Leadership DNA: Servant leader, mentor, culture stabilizer; proven success reducing attrition, building trust, and developing leaders.
- Builder Mindset: Ability to create training/certification programs and SOPs from scratch; thrives in scaling environments.
- Operational Rigor: Proficiency in KPI design, auditing, compliance enforcement, and reporting. Strong understanding of litigation timelines.
- Tech Skills: Filevine (or similar), ClickUp, Office 365, PC environment; comfort with dashboards and workflow tools.
- Communication: Strong written/verbal skills; de-escalates conflict; empathetic with injured clients and families.
Why you should work here:
- Mission & Impact: Plaintiffs’ work with real-world stakes, including complex mesothelioma cases where advocacy changes lives.
- Trial-Ready Culture: Recognized attorneys, multiple statewide honors, and a reputation for excellence.
- Growth & Scale: Expanding firm, planning acquisitions; opportunity to integrate and scale paralegal systems across Texas.
- Professional Development: Build and lead the paralegal training engine, mentor future leaders, and see tangible ROI in outcomes and careers.
- Client-Centered Practice: Active blog and client education efforts; culture of transparency and empowerment.
At Amaro Law Firm, the Director of Paralegals plays a pivotal role in building and leading a first-class paralegal organization. This leader will stabilize and mentor teams, enforce SOP compliance, manage KPIs and reporting, and ensure every paralegal contributes to delivering closure, justice, and peace within 24 months of case sign-up.
The Director has no personal caseload; their focus is on leadership, process, culture, and outcomes. Reporting to litigation leadership (CLO/MA), they will professionalize workflows, implement structured training and certification programs, and prepare the team for continued growth and acquisitions.
