Position Summary:
Mastery Schools seeks to provide high-quality schools for every family and to create positive change in the communities we serve. As a network serving more than 14,000 students in Philadelphia and Camden, we must ensure families and community partners are aware of Mastery as a high-quality school option for students in K-12, and that schools have the strategies and technical support they need to fully enroll their schools year round.

The Director of Student Enrollment in Pennsylvania will lead this effort for our Philadelphia schools. The ideal candidate understands the Philadelphia enrollment landscape; has sharp critical thinking and decision-making skills; has successfully designed and led student enrollment or other parallel action campaigns at a local level; is passionate about every child having access to a high quality public school, and has a good sense of humor

Duties and Responsibilities:

    •  Execute a broad-based results-driven strategy to increase the demand for Mastery Schools in Philadelphia – including communications & marketing, multi-layered outreach to families, school programming to support enrollment, and data collection and use to improve our outcomes.
    • Responsible for driving all Mastery Schools in Philadelphia to meet or exceed their enrollment targets each year and to grow demand so schools maintain waitlists of interested families.
    • Collaborate with and guide school-based operations leaders and staff to support enrollment problem-solving and strategy building.
    • Train, supervise, and execute the work plan for a team of enrollment support specialists who will participate in a range of activities including door to door canvassing, phone call campaigns, staffing community events, hosting information tables at public venues, and home visits to prospective families.
    • Build relationships with parents, caregivers, school, and community leaders.
    • Provide direction and support to Regional School Officers, Principals, Assistant Principals of Operations, and their teams in Philadelphia in regard to strategies for retaining current and recruiting new families to their schools.
    • Manage the citywide data tracking and reporting system for Philadelphia Schools – including navigation of the city’s “Apply Philly Charter” online system, and our own internal tools for schools to report re-enrollment and for schools to manage enrollment and retention of new applicants.
    • Develop relationships with key early childhood centers, Pre-K programs, and community partners serving students ages 3-18 in Philadelphia with an eye to recruiting families, promoting the Mastery brand, and creating programmatic partnerships with schools that benefit students and the community
    • Report weekly on personal and team level progress, including school level enrollment data and field activity (e.g. individual meetings, calls, events, visits, etc.)
    • Execute strategy for marketing aligned to student recruitment goals as a client of the communications team at Mastery (e.g. earned media, social media, paid advertising, community sponsorships) 

Qualifications

    •  Ability to work well in a team and enhance cooperative working relationships
    • Belief in Mastery’s mission and our role as a high quality school of choice in Philadelphia
    • Curiosity about people’s stories and ability to initiate and build relationship with a wide and diverse range of people
    • Strong leadership skills and a demonstrated capacity to work with diverse families and communities.
    • Knowledge of public education, charter schools, and political landscape is highly desirable
    • Must have the ability to take initiative and follow through on projects to completion
    • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural competency, and self-awareness with the ability to reflect and adapt to diverse environments
    • Proficient with Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel)
    • Excellent problem solver

Education and Experience

    •  Five to seven years professional experience in student recruitment, community or political organizing, K-12 education, business development, social services or relevant fields.
    • Experience managing a team required.
    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Experience with marketing and/or student admissions in public, private, and/or charter schools a plus
    • Experience in door-to-door canvassing, canvass strategy, and/or leading a field team is a plus

Other Requirements:

    • Ability to physically perform the essential duties of the role as outlined above, and to work in the environmental conditions required, such as traveling to network campuses, monitoring and interacting with students, in-person facilitation of trainings, etc.;
    • This role may require frequent travel between multiple locations. Reliable transportation is essential to fulfill job responsibilities

Salary and Bonus Information:

    • The Director of Student Enrollment at Mastery can expect a starting salary between $93,500 - $105,500, based on education and experience, with opportunities for growth as your career progresses. Each offer is made in alignment with Mastery’s compensation philosophy and commitment to pay equity, ensuring fairness and consistency across our team.
